Brighton
This seaside town became more accessible to Victorian tourist after the railway opened in the 1840s, and the resort which was once a favourite of the wealthy, became a popular destination for day trippers and holiday makers.
The chain pier was built in 1823 and was a popular attraction for visitors to Victorian Brighton, it was an impressive structure contructed like a bridge with the pier suspended from chains which were attached to pillars.
The chain pier has gone but Volk’s electric railway which opened in 1883 is still taking visitors along the front. One of Brighton’s more familiar and notable buildings is the The Royal Pavilion which is a former royal residence .
