'The Crystal Palace'
The 'Crystal Palace' was built to house the Great Exhibition, and was opened by Queen Victoria on the 1st of May 1851. It was an enormous and extraordinary building in Hyde Park. Built of cast iron, glass and wood.
Railway companies ran special excursion trains from all over the country, and millions of visitors came to see the Exhibition.
In 1854 after the Great Exhibition was closed the ‘Crystal Palace’ was moved to another part of London. It was sadly destroyed by fire in November 1936.
