Dover in Kent
The inspiring and iconic sight of The White Cliffs of Dover and the Dover to Calais ferry crossing, maybe the first things that come to mind for many people when they think of Dover.
Dover is the closest main port to Calais, and on a clear day it is possible to see the French coast, although many travellers now use The Channel Tunnel Crossing at Folkestone in Kent which opened in 1994; Dover is still a thriving port and an important gateway to Europe for many travellers.
Dover Castle is one reminder of the important role Dover has played in British history. Many people unfortunately, miss the opportunity of seeing the attractions or spending some time in Dover as they rush to and from the ferry.
