Corfe Castle in Dorset
Corfe Castle, which stands on a hill overlooking the village of stone houses below, must be one of the most spectacular ruined castles in England. The castle was destroyed after it fell into the hands of the Parliamentarian forces during the English Civil War.
Most of the village buildings, like the castle, are made of local Purbeck stone.
Popular with tourists, this busy village retains much of its charm and old world character.
