Mousehole
Mousehole is a quintessential Cornish village on the south coast of Cornwall, and said to have one of the most beautiful harbours in the country.
During the (1585–1604) Anglo-Spanish War in July 1595, seven years after the defeat of the Spanish Armada in 1588, the Spanish raided Cornwall.
Mousehole was attacked, bombarded by cannon fire, and invaded by Spanish infantry. The building that was the home of Jenken Keigwin one of the men who died in the attack has survived. (top two pictures)
Mousehole is now well known for its annual Christmas lights display, started over forty years ago by artist Joan Gilchrest. The display has grown over the years and attracts a large number of visitors. If anyone can help out with a photograph of the lights, it would be appreciated.
Mousehole Wild Bird Hospital and Sanctuary was founded in 1928 by Dorothy and Phyllis Yglesias.
This hospital became well known when the Torrey Canyon, a tanker carrying crude oil, was shipwrecked in 1967 off the coast of Cornwall.
A disastrous event for the local sea birds; the hospital treated and saved many of them.
The colour photographs were taken in 2008.
