Clovelly in Devon - Main Street

Clovelly

Like me you may be surprised when you first discover that tourists are charged an admission fee to enter the village.

The main village street, called both "up-Along" and "Down- Along" depending on which way you are going, is very steep and is not suitable for everyone. No motor vehicles are allowed in the village, but there is a Land Rover service from the visitor centre to the harbour via a back road. This service does not run all year, and there is a fee.

If you visit Clovelly be prepared for a lot of walking and if like me you are not used to a lot of exercise it may be better to walk down and get the land Rover service back to the car park and visitor centre.

This is one of the most picturesque villages I have seen. Even in Devon a county famous for its beautiful villages and scenery Clovelly is outstanding.

Although Clovelly is a tourist attraction, it's still a real village where people live and work.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Clovelly and thought the admission fee was well worth it.
